Poet On The Move

Biography

Poet, dancer, teacher and choreographer, Tiffani is a multi-talent. Born and raised in Maryland/Washington D.C. Tiffani studied dance at The University of Maryland. After receiving her degree, she relocated to Boston where she found her poetic voice. It was there, at The Lizard Lounge, in Porter Square, that Tiffani dove into spoken words.

In 2001 she performed her poetry at The Dance Complex in Cambridge, MA for her solo concert, Tiffani’s Groove (an evening of solo works choreographed, written and performed by Tiffani). Ted Bale of The Boston Herald wrote of her performance of poetry and movement, that Tiffani is… “sharp and psychologically complex…a lesson for any emerging choreographer striving for success”.

After three years of dancing and writing in Boston, Tiffani found her way back home to Maryland. Joining the highly regarded dance troupe, CityDance Ensemble, Tiffani had the pleasure of dancing with famed dancer Rasta Thomas as well as grace stages all over from the John F. Kennedy Center for The Performing Arts in Washington D.C. to audiences in Vilnius, Lithuania and Krakow, Poland.

While in Maryland, Tiffani performed her poetry at several local poetry clubs including Takoma Station in Takoma Park MD, and on stage at The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda MD, The University of Maryland, The Jack Guidone Theater at Joy Of Motion and Dance Place in Washington D.C., The John Krieger Theater at The Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, The Grace Street Theater in Richmond, VA and the Black Rock Center for the Arts in Germantown, MD.

In February 2005 international choreographer, Vladimir Angelov, set movement to Tiffani’s most talked about poem, “A Comfortable Quiet”. Mr. Angelov choreographed the dance (a duet) for CityDance Ensemble as part of its’ Original Series for 2004-2005. This one of a kind piece was performed (by Tiffani and company member Reginald Cole) at The Music Center at Strathmore’s Concert Hall to the recorded vocals of Tiffani and local actor/performer Joe Mills.

After three years of touring internationally and performing her poetry at venues in and around Washington D.C., Tiffani recorded her first spoken word poetry CD, “On Her Own”. The CD is a collection of poems that go down easy, stir your emotions and send you to places unknown. Sarah Kaufman of The Washington Post boasted, Tiffani is… “A charismatic performer…” she has “…an innate ability to captivate an audience.” Tiffani is definitely an emerging artist to keep an eye on.

Always the traveler, Tiffani currently lives in Central California with her husband Michael and their son Caleb.

Interests

tori amos, cat power, portishead, i am moved to write by all that breathes and lives around me. i am heavily influenced by music and words. some artists that i can not live without: ani difranco, floetry....cats that are original and whose lyrics sound like poetry set to music. or just the music itself: i dig miles davis, charlie parker and phillip glass too. i am fascinated with words, look them up and place them into my mental rolodex for the next time pen meets paper. and of course, my joys -sexy to scary- all are lessons/stepping stones to be learned and used positively for a richer life. it is natural for me to share all my experiences no matter how personal because my life is an experience that is most likely shared by others. it', a chronology of my past, present and what’s to come…, alana davis, alicia keys, especially words that are new to me. i jot them down, i am influenced by my own life. my sorrows, own it and share it. my words are a diary
